Salary: $41.00-44.00 / hour

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR :

HR Compliance Officer

Location: Arlington Heights

Days/Hours: 6-12 hours per week on average, flexible hybrid schedule

WHAT A TYPICAL DAY LOOKS LIKE:

  • Measuring current compliance with relevant state and federal legislation across the business ensuring we meet all standards for any external audits
  • Reporting to management on status, proposed improvements, and impending legislative changes
  • Develop, implement, and update HR policies to align with local, state, and federal labor laws
  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or audits to ensure compliance procedures are followed
  • Keep informed regarding pending industry changes, trends, and best practices and assess the impact of these changes on organizational processes
  • Draft disciplinary communications and perform full review of employee files for all actions up to and including termination
  • Consult with business attorney as necessary to address difficult legal compliance issues
  • Disseminate written policies and procedures related to compliance activities
  • Regularly reviewing employee handbook policies for needed updates and amendments
  • Provide guidance and support to management during investigations, offering expertise in regulatory requirements and ethical considerations
  • Identify compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies
  • Ensure the organization complies with regulations such as FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, and OSHA standards
  • Assist with conflict resolutions for complaints related to legal or policy violation
  • Foster a legally compliant workplace culture while protecting the organization from legal risks
  • Lead investigations related to employee grievances, harassment, or policy violations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations or Law or Legal Studies, or related studies
  • Professional Certification in HR (PHR) (SPHR) by HRCI or Certified Professional in HR (SHRM-CP) (SHRM-SCP) or Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), highly recommended
  • At least five years experience in Human Resources involving compliance, auditing and regulatory matters, plus strong generalist experience
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws (e.g. FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO)
  • Familiarity with anti-discrimination statutes, rules and regulations also a plus
