The City of Torrance is recruiting for a STAGE MANAGER to join the Cultural Arts Center Theater Team! The Department This position is located in the Department of General Services. The Department provides quality services that support City departments in a manner which enable them to carry out their community missions and provide these services in a cost-effective and efficient manner that best serves the operational needs of City departments and the community. The Division The Torrance Cultural Arts Center includes various facilities and is managed by the City's General Services Department through the Torrance Cultural Arts Center Administrative Offices. The Position Under direction from the Theater Technical Director, the Stage Manager acts as Stage Supervisor and as a point of contact for rental clients during rental events. This position delegates and oversees duties of Theater Technicians, and assumes responsibility for set-up, operation, and strike of all staging and related technical equipment to complete a successful operation of rental events. The Stage Manager maintains skills and up-to-date knowledge of theater equipment, performs maintenance and repair work of all production lighting systems, low-voltage control systems, and various building electrical components, and acts as an advisor to Torrance Cultural Arts Center staff on technical theater related items. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: A Bachelor’s degree in technical theater, or a related field. Three years of experience in technical production in a large arts complex, including experience in a lead or supervisory capacity. Successful candidates will possess the following: Supervisory Skills: hiring, training, counseling, and disciplining. Public Contact/Interpersonal Skills: renter relations/marketing, and City employee and officials interaction. Theater Technical Skills: Modern lighting and sound equipment appropriate for theater use and set construction. A systems-rigging certification preferred. Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands and/or working conditions: The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to stoop; to reach; to stand; to walk and sit for extended periods of time; to push and/or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds. On a frequent basis, essential duties of the position may require the ability to climb stairs and ladders, and to kneel and/or crouch. Essential duties of this classification are primarily performed in a dynamic theatre environment.
