Job Description

  • Are ready to reimagine rigor
  • Want to teach math in a way that helps students make deep conceptual connections, along with developing solid skills, and that is engaging for you and students
  • Are passionate about innovative mathematics teaching and believe in students’ capacity as thoughtful learners and developing leaders
  • Believe that the words“ student-centered ” and “ inquiry-driven ” are core to your philosophy as an educator

In the Bosque School Math Department, we are committed to an approach that goes beyond a passive model of learning and merely imparting math facts. We strive to teach students how to learn and love math. The Middle School Math teacher engages students in true problem-solving, not simply applying rote skills to difficult problems. Technology becomes a tool for discovery and extension, not just a calculation device. When students tackle rich math tasks, ask insightful questions, take risks, practice core skills, and learn from mistakes, they build mathematical capacity, resilience, understanding, and mastery. Moreover, teaching students how to learn and work in a collaborative environment gives them the tools to succeed in tomorrow’s world. As a Middle School Math Teacher who combines mathematical aptitude with mathematically specific pedagogical knowledge, you will be integral to helping us further refine and implement an outstanding, rigorous, and holistic Challenging Education curriculum while bringing wisdom, energy, insight, and warmth to the position and department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students
  • Teach five sections of Middle School Math involving some combination of two to three different courses ranging from 6th-grade math up to high school algebra, with the possibility for changes year to year based on school needs
  • Serve as a faculty advisor to middle school students
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding and appreciation for middle school-aged students

  • Demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleagues and contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community
  • Actively support and stay current on the needs of and changes to formal Bosque School student learning and medical/mental health plans; work in collaboration with the Student Support Team, which could include the Learning Specialist, Nurse, Counselors, Deans, and Division Heads, to integrate student accommodations into the classroom
  • Provide extra help for students, including being available during office hours/homework cafe/non-teaching periods to meet with students
  • Keep parents informed in a timely manner if a student is below academic or behavioral expectations following divisional expectations
  • Participate in parent/guardian conferences and parent/guardian programs at school
  • Adhere to internal and external school communication guidelines
  • Attend staffulty, department, and grade-level meetings, unless excused by Division Head(s), arriving on time and participating professionally throughout the meeting (not leaving early, being distracted by off-task projects, or working on other projects at that time unless approved by the Division Head)
  • Collaboratively work with colleagues and administrators in support of the manifestation of our mission and values; when disagreements arise, lean into our “cultivating community” behaviors of coming together in moments of crisis and confusion, assuming positive intent, and seeking clarification
  • Work closely with the Math department and grade-level teams
  • Engage in the planning and execution of interdisciplinary project work
  • Participate fully in the Bosque community, supporting students, colleagues, families, and school culture and community
  • Engage enthusiastically in our robust annual professional development program
