INVESTIGATOR
Incumbent serves as investigator for the Owen County Prosecutor's Office, responsible for coordinating criminal investigations, responding to the investigatory needs of the Department. Incumbent conducts criminal investigations according to established and procedures, making independent decisions and taking authoritative action in response to situational demands.
Incumbent reports directly to the Prosecutor.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Coordinate major investigations with other law enforcement officials or agencies, including internal investigations and exchanging information. Consults with Prosecutor and prepares case reports for court, including reviewing cases on evidentiary and legal issues crucial to successful prosecution. Investigates misdemeanors and felony violations for crimes against persons, children, and/or property, and missing persons. Responds to emergency calls and major incidents including death investigations, burglary/intrusion alarms, domestic disturbances, and citizen complaints.
Participate and assist in efforts to locate and apprehend suspects, including, but not limited to, pursuing and arresting suspects, advising of constitutional rights, conducting searches, and transporting to detention facilities. Collect, document, and preserve evidence, including locating/interviewing/interrogating/protecting witnesses, obtaining written or tape-recorded statements/depositions/admissions, recovering/inventorying stolen property,
securing/protecting/documenting crime scenes, reviewing lab reports, preparing subpoenas and/or search warrants, and delivering evidence to state agencies for examination.
Serve in civil service/courts, including serving subpoenas/civil process papers/search
warrants/other court documents, escorting witnesses and victims to and from court appearances, giving testimony and presenting evidence in legal proceedings, updating records of warrants served, and providing courtroom security.
Maintains and conducts regular inspection on assigned vehicle and equipment.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED and Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Training as a Law Enforcement Officer required. Candidates who do not possess requisite training from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy will be required to obtain said training upon acceptance of employment in this position. Candidate must pass a background check, possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Base pay is $_24.68 ___ per hour.
Position is full time and includes vacation/comp time, insurance and retirement benefits.
