ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE POSITION: The Economic Development Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting and advancing the City's economic development initiatives through community engagement, developer relations, and program administration. This position serves as a key liaison between the City, residents, and the business community while managing various economic development programs and communications. The Coordinator provides direct support to the City Project Manager and assists in the implementation of strategic development initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as liaison between the City and various stakeholders, including residents, business owners, and developers;
Represents the City at OKI (Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments) and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce meetings and related events;
Coordinates and manages Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Programs, including application processing, compliance monitoring, and reporting;
Develops and manages grant applications, implementation, and reporting requirements;
Creates and implements communication strategies to promote economic development initiatives;
Maintains the City's social media presence and digital communications related to economic development;
Ability to travel to various locations throughout the city;
Attends and participates in evening neighborhood meetings and developer consultations;
Responds to inquiries from residents, developers, and businesses regarding economic development opportunities and concerns;
Assists in preparing presentations, reports, and other materials for City Council and various boards and commissions;
Collaborates with other City departments to coordinate economic development efforts;
Provides support to the City Project Manager on various development initiatives and special projects;
Responsible for conducting research at the direction of the City Manager;
Appears for work and completes assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time;
Works in a safe manner observing all safety rules and poses no significant risk to the health and safety of others.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs additional duties as required.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, Economics, or related field;
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in economic development, public administration, or related field;
Strong understanding of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and other economic development tools;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication strategies;
Experience in grant writing and administration;
Strong project management and organizational skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in related field;
Experience in municipal government;
Knowledge of local zoning and development regulations;
Familiarity with economic development software and GIS applications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of business development;
Working knowledge of municipal zoning regulations;
Working knowledge of planning programs and processes;
Working knowledge of construction/engineering terminology;
Good negotiations skills;
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with developers, architects, contractors, financial institutions and the general public.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be bondable;
Must possess valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
Standard office environment with frequent local travel to meeting sites;
Regular evening meetings required (approximately 2-4 per month);
Ability to communicate effectively and prepare reports requiring writing, reading, mental reasoning and interpretation;
Ability to operate modern equipment using hands and fingers.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required;
Work is typically performed in an office setting at a desk or table with intermittent standing or stooping;
Outdoor work is required in the inspection of various land use developments and construction sites.
