Description SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Bus Service Mechanic performs general maintenance and light duty repairs to vehicles for Tri-Valley's transportation department and provides upkeep to transit facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Bus Service - Performs routine automotive maintenance and preventive care, such as checking and changing oil, lubrication of chassis, replacement of light bulbs, and repairing of electrical components
- Performs diagnostic services to determine appropriate repairs.
- Repairs and replaces worn and defective parts.
- Assists in maintaining a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists with the coordination of vehicle periodic maintenance schedule and minor repairs as needed.
- Test drives bus as part of diagnostic testing and to confirm repairs have resolved the problems.
- Prepares and submits work orders to Transportation Fleet Supervisor as necessary.
- Wheelchair-lift maintenance and repair.
Safety Compliance - Must complete pre-service safety awareness training specific to position before performing essential functions of the job, annually thereafter and as requested to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others.
- Follows precautionary safety instructions to prevent injury and illness resulting from exposure to hazardous substances, sharp and/or moving parts, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements - Degree or Certificate in Automotive Repair or related field; or two years of experience working in a position requiring basic mechanical aptitude.
- Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding of bus automotive repair; will be tested.
- Current Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement; meets requirements of bus driver position or is willing and able to obtain within 3 months from hire date. Will provide training to obtain within 3 months, if needed.
- Proof of valid driver's license.
- Current Medical Examination Card; upon hire and maintain thereafter.
- Minimum age of 21 years, if required to drive bus across state line.
- Pass pre-employment drug screening and background search requirements as listed on Conditional Job Offer; upon hire and continuously meet requirements thereafter. Participate in subsequent drug/alcohol testing and background searches as appropriate.
- Two years of experience working with computers, including a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Must have own basic hand tools.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
